The construction of the “Hetmans’ Fortress” was officially set up in Chernovtsy region. This tourist complex based on the former Khotyn Fortress is going to be finished on 1 May 2010. It is considered to be one of the biggest Ukrainian tourist centres.

The “Hetmans’ Fortress” will have up-to-date hotel/restaurant infrastructure and 4 exhibiting complexes relevant to 4 periods of Khotyn Fortress defeat (Polish, Turkish, Ukrainian and Russian). Besides, all Ukrainian Cossack fortresses will be erected on 1:25 scale model.  

Since now all the visitors who come to Ukraine have a great opportunity to learn its history, take part in a great performance and have a rest in an ancient Khotyn town. The visitors can observe “Khotyn Battle Reconstruction”, a battle that occurred outside the Khotyn castle walls in 1621. In the battle, Cossack Hetman Petro Sahaydachniy defeated the Turks (army of 300, 000 men and officers) and struck an important peace agreement with them, which ultimately benefited the Poles and gave them power over the region. Khotyn finally came under Russian rule in 1793 and was mainly used as a prison up until the end of WWII.
