Museum "The Fortress of Kyiv" The Museum is situated in one of the former parts of Kyiv fortification system - the Squint Caponier. It was built in 1844 as a defensive construction and is a half underground building with thick stone and brick walls, with firing holes in it. First, it was used as the artillery guns and munitions storage. In 60-th years of the 19-th C. it became the political jail. The first prisoners were the participators of the polish rebellion on 1863. Nowadays the Squint Caponier is a constituent of the architectural memorial of Kiev - the Kyiv Fortress, which enclosures Kiev Pecherska Lavra, territory of the modern national Museum of World War II, factory “Arsenal” and the other.
